Monte Vino Races at 12 Ridges Vineyard
The 2021 Monte Vino event has been cancelled. Please contact us with any questions
The Monte Vino Races are intimate events with limited entries. In this new environment, the Monte Vino Races strive to bring together the running community in a safer, small crowd setting. Our mission is to provide our runners with a safer outlet to practice the sport we all love and support our staff and volunteers with a safer work environment.
Because of the very limited size, Monte Vino Races have small budgets and cannot provide all the amenities of larger events. To prevent any surprises, please read the information below and understand what is/is not provided at the event.
No Refund Policy | Monte Vino Races are "Limited Entrants Events". Please note that entries are non-refundable, non-transferrable and non-deferrable. If you are not willing to assume the risk, please do not register or wait until closer to the event. Organizing these events takes many months and many resources, and it is not financially feasible to offer refunds because of a cancellation beyond our control. Therefore, by registering, you understand and agree that your race entry is non-refundable and non-deferrable.
In addition, please understand what IS and IS NOT offered at Monte Vino Races (see list below) before registering, so there are no surprises.

No Refund Policy | Monte Vino Races are limited to about 100 entrants for all three events. Because of the remote nature of the race and given the numerous events that have occurred around the country larger than Monte Vino, we are very confident that we will hold the event with extensive safety measures. Therefore, we are going ahead with all organizations tasks and expenses required. Additional measures, such as waves, might need to be implemented if necessary. However, please note that entries are non-refundable and non-deferrable. If you are not willing to assume the risk of a possible cancellation, please do not register or wait until closer to the event. Organizing these events takes many months and many resources, and it is not financially feasible to offer refunds because of a cancellation beyond our control. Therefore, by registering, you understand and agree that your race entry is non-refundable and non-deferrable.

About 12 Ridges Vineyard |
12 Ridges Vineyard will be open for the sale of bottles, glasses and wine tastings, as well as offering pre-packaged foods. Their deck has amazing views and the area is very kid friendly, with lots of room to run around. Due to ABC laws, outside alcohol (including beer, spirits and hard cider) is NOT permitted.
12 Ridges Vineyard boasts one of the most beautiful locations in all of Virginia, Skylark Farm and Nature Preserve on the Blue Ridge Parkway. 12 Ridges, a family-owned vineyard, offers an intimate Tasting Room, over seven thousand five hundred square feet of outdoor patio space, and glorious 360-degree hilltop views. 12 Ridges is a cool climate, sparkling-focused vineyard. The high altitude at 3,300', a permeable and stony soil low in clay, cooler temperatures as well as lower humidity, all combine to give 12 Ridges an extraordinary opportunity for our chosen varietals to thrive. 12 Ridges’ sparkling wines will be complemented by other chardonnay, riesling, pinot gris, and pinot noir wines.
Your families and friends are welcome to come and hang out at 12 Ridges Vineyard while you run. Chef Troy will be selling post-race food from 11:00am to 3:30pm

Course | The course for all events is a stunning mountain course through the 12 Ridges Vineyard property and on gravel mountain roads surrounding the property.
The start-finish at 12 Ridges Vineyard has 360-degrees views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The out-and-back course is 3 miles on a wide grass path and the remaining on gravel roads. It is challenging and mountainous, with a mixture of gradual and steep ascents and descents, mostly downhill on the way out and mostly uphill on the way back. This is an open course with limited local traffic. Please review the course profile and course map. The water stops will be approximately every 3 miles. They will have water, no cups, limited pre-packaged food items and no fresh foods. There will be no mile markers along the route.
Aid Stations | You will be required to carry a water bottle or a cup, as the aid stations will be cup-less. The aid stations will have water, Gatorade and MINIMAL pre-packaged single-serve foods (candies, crackers, etc). There will be NO fresh food, so please plan accordingly and carry your own. There will be 3 aid stations on the course.
50K Aid stations | miles 3.8, 7.6, 9, 11.8, 20.8, 23.6, 24.3 (1:46pm CUTOFF) and 27.9
Marathon Aid Stations | miles 3.8, 7.6, 9, 11.8, 20.8, 23.6, 24.3
Half Marathon Aid Stations | miles 3.8, 4.9, 7.8, 11.2, 12.3
The cutoffs will be as follows: 8 hours for the 50K. The Marathon & Half Marathon cutoff will be the same as the 50K. The 50K has a time limit of 8 hours, so 3:30pm. There will be one cutoff at the last aid station (mile 24.3), the intersection of Spy Run Gap Road and Mill Creek School Rd. The cutoff will be 6 hours and 16 minutes, until 1:46pm. If a 50K runner is beyond the cutoff, they will not complete the last out-and-back to the end of Mill Creek School Rd but head straight to the finish. They will be counted as a Marathon finisher.
